The collection of medieval manuscripts comprises 122 items, the most valuable among which are: ''Augustinus: De civitate Dei'' (1347), the finest illuminated Slovene medieval codex, and the ''Stična Manuscript'' (1428), a Slovene medieval texts of immense cultural importance. The Early Printed Collection consists of early examples of printed books and other rare prints, such as 16th century protestant books and rare copies of old Slovene texts. The collection also holds early modern manuscripts, private papers, autographs and manuscript legacies of renowned Slovene authors from classics like [[France Prešeren]] and [[Ivan Cankar]] to contemporary authors such as [[Vitomil Zupan]] and [[Janez Menart]].
