[[Jesenice Municipal Library]] is one of the most important information and cultural centres in the region, with around 31,000 inhabitants living in the municipalities of Jesenice, Kranjska gora and Žirovnica. The library has around 100,000 volumes of books, 1,500 items of multimedia (primarily audio CDs) and more than 180 periodicals. Automatisation and informatisation has been developed since 1991 and since 1997 users have had Internet access. The library has more than 5,000 registered readers, 15 per cent of the population. Readers borrow around 340,000 items each year and there are a further 60,000 reference items in the reading room. New acquisitions annually amount to some 6,000 new books, 180 new periodicals and 500 new multimedia items, funded partly by the municipalities and partly by the [[Ministry of Culture]]. Jesenice Municipal Library has nine branches, seven of them (Rateče, Kranjska Gora, Mojstrana, Hrušica, Plavž, Koroška Bela-Javornik and Žirovnica) searchable through the [[COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library]] system and offering Internet access. Weekly fairy tale readings, German and English lessons, workshops and discussions on books are organised for children in co-operation with local kindergartens. The library also organises computer courses and Internet browsing presentations for all generations and various exhibitions and lectures for adults.
