Organised by Obalne galerije - Coastal Galleries and the Piranesi Foundation the international architectural conference Piran Days of Architecture has taken place annually since 1983 at the last weekend in November in medieval town of Piran. Its aim is to assess current trends in architecture and present the most progressive and innovative ideas of architectural and spatial production.
The conference is held in the beautiful surroundings of Tartini Theatre, and traditionally accompanied by the International Architectural Exhibition of recent works by Central European architects. The distinguished Piranesi Award is granted for best achievements in architecture.
Recent themes of the seminar have included 'Between the Rational and the Irrational in Architecture' (2003), 'Architect and Society' (2004) and 'Architectural Politics' (2005). Accompanying exhibitions have also taken place; in 2005 the central exhibition took place in the Piran City Gallery and featured recent architectural achievements from Austria, Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia.
Piranesi Award has been conferred on the best architectural achievement. The jury also confers three Piranesi mentions as well as a Student Piranesi award.
