ARK Arhitektura Krušec
In 2010 the Arhitektura Krušec architectural office received the prestigious Plečnik Award for the new Faculty of Biotechnology building. The award is bestowed annually by the Plečnik Fund, that grants also Plečnik Medals – in 2007 the team received the Plečnik Medal for the building of Alpine hotel Celjska koča.
Background
Lena and Tomaž Krušec graduated at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, where Tomaž later worked as an assistant, and since 2010 holds lectures as a Professor. As both personal and business partners Lena and Tomaž founded the architectural office, that is today one of the most acknowledged Slovene studios.
Awards
Besides the prominent Plečnik Award, the Arhitektura Krušec received several other awards, among them also the Golden Pencil Award for the Skalne vile apartment building in Celje, and the Farewell chapel at Teharje cemetary (2008). Granted annually by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia (ZAPS), the Golden Pencil Award was conferred to the team also for the mountain hotel Celjska koča (2007). In 2005 the Arhitektura Krušec won the Interior of the Year title for the Pilates Centre on Wolfova ulica in Ljubljana centre.
