ŠKUC Ropot has been the single most important concert organiser and promoter in Slovenia/ex-Yugoslavia during the 80s and 90s. It was established at the beginning of the 80s as an alternative/punk rock music section of ŠKUC, spearheaded by the legendary punk ideologue, activist and radio DJ Igor Vidmar.
Originating with the organisational arm of the most important rock event, the legendary 'Novi Rock' festival (1980-2000), organised by Radio Študent (RŠ), ROPOT was established as a promotional arm of the ŠKUC Association and record label. ROPOT has been an independent entity since 2000.
Concerts
It was ŠKUC Association and especially ROPOT section that organised the majority of concerts of international artists and a number of concerts by local musicians, it was the first to publish fanzines, records.
Among 400 bands and internationally acclaimed musicians brought by ROPOT on Slovene stages were: D.O.A., Sonic Youth, Swans, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Department, Lou Reed, Jane's Addiction, Virgin Prunes, Diamanda Gallas, Laibach, The Fall, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, David Bowie, Patti Smith, Sisters of Mercy, Jesus and Mary Chain, Butthole Surfers, Henry Rollins Band, Nico, Smashing Pumpkins, Benjamin Zepheniah, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Sex Pistols, Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, David Byrne, Pixies, Kraftwerk, Queens Of The Stone Age, Atari Teenage Riot, Caspar Brotzmann Massaker, Rammstein, John Hammond, Luther Allison, Little Axe.
