Founded in 1994 as a non-governmental professional association, the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia gathers together dancers, choreographers, educators, critics, and theoreticians of contemporary dance at the national level.
The Association's main aims are to establish a space for communication and the elaboration of a strategy for dance policy in Slovenia; to record, spread awareness, and preserve the continuity of contemporary dance; and to provide professional care for development of the sector and conditions for professional creative activities. The Association launches initiatives and promotes co-operation in-country and internationally, organises lectures and workshops and sets up databases. In the 90s the Association published Cirkularka magazine.
In 2012, the CDAS started the Ksenija Hribar Award for special achievements in the field of contemporary dance. The award honours professionals in the field of contemporary dance in Slovenia whose excellence and innovative work importantly contribute to the quality and development of contemporary dance in Slovenia.
Since 2010 the association manages the Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance.
The Association is a member of Asociacija, Association of Arts and Culture NGOs and Freelancers.
Contemporary Dance Network
