The Faculty of Design was established in 2005 in Ljubljana as a private independent institution of higher education. Since 2011 it has been an associated member of the University of Primorska.
The Faculty of Design offers undergraduate and postgraduate (masters) programmes in Interior Design, Visual Communications, Design Management, and Textile, Fashion, and Jewelery Design (Jewelery Design is only available as an undergraduate programme). The programmes were conceived in accordance with the Bologna Declaration standards following the example of comparable European programmes. The programmes are interdisciplinary and based on team work. The faculty's mission is to provide designers with the knowledge required to produce innovative marketable design solutions.
Pursuant to its aims, the faculty actively partners with various local institutions at the intersection of the public and private sectors, including the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, KOCles 2.0 (Competence development centre for personnel in the woodworking industries), and The Development Centre of Creative Furniture Industry.
