The Kingfisher Award (€ 5,000) is conferred annually on the director of the best film in Perspectives, the official competitive section for films by new directors at the Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe). The winning director is selected by a three-member international professional jury comprised of two foreign film professionals joined by a Slovene filmmaker or critic.

At the 16th LIFFe festival in 2005 the Kingfisher Award went to the Danish-Icelandic parody Dark Horse, directed by Dagur Kari, and at the 17th LIFFe festival in 2006 it was bestowed on Pingpong, directed by Annete K Olesen.
