Slovenski jezik is a biennial publication devoted to linguistics and is specifically concerned with problems connected with the Slovene language. It features contributions in several languages and has an international authorship. The periodical strives to contribute to the development of high-quality research on Slovene and to serve as a forum for the dissemination of ideas and research by investigators with various theoretical viewpoints, from different schools of thought, as well as cultural backgrounds.
Since 2005 all issues (including the first one published in 1997) are available also online and its abstracts are systematically listed in Slovene and international databases (LLBA, MLA, etc.). The Slavic Languages Cambridge Language Survey by Sussex and Cubberley notes the journal as an "authoritative national language" one.
