The Jožef Stefan Institute is a leading Slovene scientific research institute which covers a broad spectrum of basic and applied research. Its staff of about 820 specialises in natural sciences, life sciences and engineering.


The subjects covered by the Institute concern production and control technologies, communication and computer technologies, knowledge technologies, biotechnologies, new materials, environmental technologies, nanotechnologies and nuclear engineering. It is also interested in the interface between science and arts, and dedicated its 2006 IJS Day to the theme Science and Arts.

The Institute's website is available in Slovene and English and features general information, departmental profiles, projects, events, activities and announcements, plus details of seminars, lectures and happenings at and around IJS.

The Institute is member of EARTO - European Association of Research and Technology Organisations.

The Institute incorporates a gallery in the lobby.
