The festival has featured folkloric groups from Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Malta, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, France, Turkey, Hungary, Spain, Yugoslavia, Belgium, Canada, etc. The festival's concluding event traditionally takes place in the Portorož Auditorium.
MIFF is included in the official festival calendar of CIOFF - International Council of Organisations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts.
