The Slowenischer Lesesaal was established in 2009 witihin the partner framework consisting of the Ministry of Culture - especially with the help of National and University Library - the University of Regensburg and the Institute for South East European Studies from Regensburg. The Slovene reading club is unique in Germany and offers limited library material with the starting fond of more than 500 units, mainly focused on the history of Slovenia, the Slovene literature and the language.


Mission and objectives

The establishing of the reading club was based on a vibrant cultural and language exchange between Regensburg and Slovenia. The study of Slovenian language at the University of Regensburg was possbile since its inception in 1967, today the reading club is providing the necessary study material for students and general public. Among other periodicals, the newspapers Delo and Dnevnik are delivered daily.

Events

The reading club is also a social and a meeting place where guest lectures, presentations, public readings, film events and round tables are organised. So far, the guests included artists, writers and poets (Drago Jančar, Barbara Korun, Veit Heinchen, Taja Kramberger, Iztok Osojnik, Jani Kovačič, etc.) and lecturers (Marija Bidovec, Matteo Colombi, Marko Zajc, and others).
