Developed in 2026 by a team of researchers at the Department of Art History, University of Ljubljana, the Exhibiting in Slovenia 1947–1979 website charts the rich history of visual art exhibitions in Slovenia over more than three decades, alongside forays into architecture, design, and other exhibiting practices of the period. The project was funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS).

Features

The website's main feature is the interactive map of the art exhibition venues across Slovenia, offering an overview of how exhibiting activity developed during the country's years as part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The period is framed by two landmark exhibitions: the guest show Exhibition of Soviet Painters (Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, 1947) and the retrospective Slovenian Fine Arts 1945–1978 (Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and Architectural Museum Ljubljana, 1979).

The website also presents the research outcomes: working materials, scholarly articles, and a monograph (in Slovenian). A dedicated repository brings together digitised issues of key art and architecture periodicals from the period - Likovni svet, Arhitekt, Likovna revija and Sinteza - all now defunct. The digitisation was carried out in collaboration with the National and University Library (NUK); individual issues are available via the Digital Library of Slovenia (dLib.si).
