Exhibiting in Slovenia 1947–1979 website was developed in 2026 by a group of researchers investigating the exhibiting of visual art and, to a lesser extent, architecture, design and other exhibiting activities during that period. The research project was conducted by the Department of Art History, University of Ljubljana and funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS).

Features

The website's main feature is the interactive map of the art exhibition venues in Slovenia. It provides an overview of the development of the exhibiting activities in Slovenia during the former Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia till 1979. The researched period is marked by two milestone exhibitions - the guest show Exhibition of Soviet Painters (Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, 1947) and the retrospective Slovenian Fine Arts 1945–1978 (Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and Architectural Museum Ljubljana, 1979).

The website offers also the research outcomes such as working materials, scientific articles, and a monograph (in Slovenian). It provides as well the repository of the digitised art and architecture periodicals from the researched period, now-defunct (Likovni svet, Arhitekt, Likovna revija and Sinteza). The digitisation project was made in collaboration with the National and University Library (NUK), the individual issues are available at the Digital Library of Slovenia (dLib.si).
