Founded in 2010, the Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia is one of the several local outgrowths of the international project Nomad Dance Academy, initiated in 2006 as a wide-ranging platform for collaborations in the field of contemporary dance in the Balkan region. Academy deals with education, research, production and promotion, pooling potentials and resources in contemporary dance on the local and regional levels. The organisation is a co-producer of the international festival of contemporary dance CoFestival, held annually in co-production with Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture.

Members

Members of the Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia are Dragana Alfirević, Nina Božič, Jana Jevtović, Celine Larrere, Gregor Kamnikar, Dejan Srhoj, Rok Vevar and Jasmina Založnik.

European projects

A 4-year Creative Europe-co-funded endeavour was the DANCE ON PASS ON DREAM ON project (2016–2019) led by the Diehl+Ritter NGO from Germany. It focused on the artistic excellence of the mature, older dancer. The partners of the project – next to the Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia – came from the Republic of Serbia, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.

The project aimed to develop a model for a sustainable artistic career, stimulate new educational and artistic methods and strived for a change in perception of age through new formats of audience participation of senior citizens.

Another Creative Europe co-funded project was Life Long Burning – Towards a sustainable Eco-System for Contemporary Dance in Europe (2018–2022).

In 2020, the project "(NON)ALIGNED MOVEMENTS Strengthening contemporary dance in Western Balkans" was selected on the Creative Europe special Western Balkans call. Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia will join partners Lokomotiva (MK), Nomad Dance Academy Bulgaria (BG), Tanzfabrik Kreuzberg GUG (DE) and project leader Station Service for Contemporary Dance (RS) in the effort to infuse the Western Balkans region with a stronger contemporary dance scene.
