Sovre's Study (Sovretov kabinet) is a residency for translators established in 2020. It takes place on two locations: in the village Dol pri Hrastniku and at the homestead Pri Kovačevih in the village Volčji Grad. It has been run by the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators in collaboration with the municipality of Hrastnik, Cultural and recreational center Hrastnik and the homestead Pri Kovačevih. The residence in Dol pri Hrastniku hosts from three to six residents per year while the residence in Volčji Grad usually accepts two.

Cost coverage

Residents are entitled to free accommodation, free bus ticket for trips all across Slovenia, free membership of the local Anton Sovre Library and free entrance to cultural organizations and recreational capacities. They also receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses during the stay.

The residence is primarily intended for international translators of Slovene literature. Since 2022, it also accepts Slovenian translators, while from 2023 international translators of other language combinations are also welcome; the last two groups are obliged to pay a small fee.

Past residencies

Sovre's study has so far accepted residents from Europe, North America and South America. Past residents include Mirta Jurilj (Croatia), Todorka Mineva (Bulgaria), Zdenka Štimac (France), Giorgia Maurovich (Italy), Michael Biggins (USA), Maciej Piotrowski (Poland), Maria-Gabriela Constantin (Romania), and others.
