The journal has three parts. The first comprises a section for real life stories and articles which are in line with the general orientation of the journal. The criteria for contributions are an academic approach supported by a rich critical apparatus in a narrative style which is neither dull nor plain. The second part is comprised of discussions concerning the theory of history as well as various polemics, while the third offers reviews of books dealing with issues and topics related to the journal's content.

== The modern narrative ==

Undoubtedly the most distinctive characteristic of Zgodovina za vse is the revival of narrative. The articles are discernible by their detailed narratives or description (ie thick descriptions). This is so-called 'modern narrative' which contemporary historians, influenced by the findings and results of anthropology, contrast with more traditional narrative characterised as 'thin description'. Thorough and detailed case studies of various phenomena from the Slovene past form complex articles which, according to the methodology and technique they deploy, can be characterised as microhistory or micronarrative - the history of every-day life, the history of mentality, as well as the history of civilisation, habits and customs.

With respect to the above-mentioned paradigmatic orientation, the journal is on a par with similar historical periodicals in Europe. The articles are complemented by fairly long German summaries and shorter Slovene and English abstracts.

The journal comprises three content-based segments. The first features real life accounts and articles that adhere to the general orientation of the journal. The criteria for contributions are a scholarly approach supported by comprehensive critical source material and a compelling and lively narrative style. The journal is published biannually in 297mm x 210mm format and runs from 100 to 120 pages. Contributions from authors and readers who are interested in themes and concepts common to those of the journal and feel a need to write or read this kind of history are most welcome.

Some of the contributions are: the nutrition and the eating habits of the Carniola aristocracy; the history of the vehement singing societies of the Ljubljana's Germans and the history of the pejorative term for the so-called 'Ljubljana shirts'; the history of the national conflicts in Primorska region and the history of sexual offences in the region of Celje in 1930s.

Launched in 1994, the Slovene historical journal Zgodovina za vse (History for Everyone) focuses on historical anthropology and investigates topics within the history of everyday life, as well as with "history from below" or people's history. The journal was not only hailed by professional historians, students of history and other disciplines in the humanities, but was also favourably received by the general public.

It is published by the vocational organisation Historical Society of Celje, and is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Slovene Research Agency (ARRS), and the Municipality of Celje.

The modern narrative

The most distinctive feature of Zgodovina za vse is the revival of narrative. The contributions are notable in that they deploy detailed narratives or description (known as "thick description"). This is what contemporary historians, influenced by the findings and results in anthropology, call "modern narrative", contrasting it with the more traditional narrative, which employs "thin description". Detailed case studies of events and phenomena from the Slovene past make up complex articles which, in view of the methodology and techniques they utilise, can be defined as micro-history or micro-narrative, that is, the history of every-day life, the history of mentality, as well as the history of civilisation, habits, and customs.

Contents and approach

The journal comprises three content-based segments. The first features real life accounts and articles that adhere to the general orientation of the journal. The criteria for contributions are a scholarly approach supported by comprehensive critical source material and a compelling and lively narrative style. The second segment affords space to discussions regarding the theory of history as well as various paradigmatic contestations, while the third consists of reviews of works dealing with topics related to the journal's content.

The journal is on a par with other similar historical periodicals in Europe. The articles feature substantial summaries in German and brief abstracts in England and Slovenian. Past editions of the journal are available in the archive section of their website.
