Programme
Musical proposals from throughout the world have been presented beside artists of the region. Always open to quality proposals, the Folkest Festival offers a programme that presents established artists as well as new talents from various cultures. Presenting ethno music from various countries has always been the festival's priority. Almost a thousand musical groups have already performed at the festival, with more than 100 Friulian, Slovene, Carinthian and Istrian localities hosting itinerant performances.
Performers
Since 1992 TV Koper-Capodistria has officially covered the entire festival. During the second half of the 1990s Folkest began promoting large exclusive productions, including performances by Angelo Branduardi, the Chieftains, David Shea, the Inti Illimani and Carlos Nuñez, together with Friulian artists such as La Sedon Salvadie and Daniele D'Agaro.
Since 2001 Folkest hosted among others the musicians Vlado Kreslin (Slovenia), Dario Marušič (Istria), Allan Taylor (UK), Goran Bregović (Serbia), John Trudell, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker (USA), Richard Dobson (USA-Switzerland), the European Youth Folk Orchestra and the groups Los De Abajo (Mexico), Variano (Brazil), Taraf da Metropulitana (Romania), Contempo Trio (France), Boban Marković Orkestar (Serbia), Vruja (Istria), Sara Tavares (Cape Verde), Radio Mundial (Portorico-USA), Ginger Leigh Band & Carolyn Wonderland (USA), Noa and Esta (Israel), Achanak (India-UK), Te Vaka (Polynesia-New Zealand), Farafina (Burkina Faso), Ska Cubano (Cuba) Baba Zula (Turkey), Pitura Freska, Mau Mau (Italy), Vizonto (Hungary), Fanfara Tirana (Albania), The Grande Mother Re:Invented (USA), Systema Solar (Columbia), along with several Dutch, Austrian, Spanish, German, Scottish, Irish, Swedish and Slovene folk musicians. The programme in 2011 presented the Roma singer Esma Redžepova (Macedonija) and the group At First Light (Irland). The concerts have been covered also by Italian RAI and the Swiss TV.
