The European Cultural and Technological Centre (EKTC) Maribor was established in 2003 as a private institute, offering support for activities in the field of culture, cultural heritage, non-formal education, cultural, technological and scientific exchange. The centre is based in the scenic Betnava Mansion in the outskirts of Maribor. The baroque mansion serves as an exhibition, music and education venue for artists and researchers.

Programme

Since its inception the EKTC has hosted several contemporary art exhibitions, among others also by sculptor Marjan Drev and the Forma Viva project by several Slovene visual artists, made in co-operation with the Lent Festival and Art Kamp. In 2012 the centre hosts the International Ceramics Triennial Unicum.

The permanent museum collection dates back to the 14th century and is currently being restored and renovated.

The music activity is managed within the project "The Sound Spectre" with about 5 concerts of classical music per year. In 2011 regional and national musicians have been presented at the venue in order to promote classical music.

Cultural heritage project

In 1999 the Government of Slovenia adopted a decree declaring Betnava Mansion a cultural monument of national importance. Together with Slovene partners, the institute Porta B from Celje and the Slovene Ethnological and Anthropological Association KULA, the EKTC manages an international project "Sincuheritage" (Cultural Heritage of the Past for a Brighter Future), funded by the EEA and Norway Grants financial mechanism.
