Being part of the ŠKUC Association Music Division, Buba 1986 is quite an independent agency engaged in concert booking and record promotion. Geographically speaking, main location of its activities take place in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria - clubs, youth centres, alternative venues and more commercial theatres. Buba covers quite a variety of music genres, non-genre types and styles as art-, avant-, progressive-, jazz rock, crossover, avant pop, experimental, alternative, hip hop and their more or less close similarities.

Background

Buba started its activities as a part of worldwide celebrated Ljubljana Hard Core Kolektiv. After two years of promoting concerts that presented especially American Hard Core music (including first Ljubljana appearance of the Fugazi), it changed its name into HC Buba. In 1988 Ljubljana Hard Core Kolektiv split up into Stripcore and Buba HC, so the new period began. After two years of solo activities Buba HC joined the ŠKUC Association.

Among several important bands and individuals that Buba brought to Slovenia and its neighbourhood within last five years of intense promoting activity one finds: Dälek, Mouse on Mars, DJ Rupture, NoMeansNo, Trevor Dunn's Trio-Convulsant, Mono, Girls against Boys, Dog Eat Dog, Fantômas, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, The Melvins, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Isis, Animal Collective, Mudhoney, Lydia Lunch's Big Sexy Noise, Nick Olivery, Tindersticks, etc.
