The [[Maribor Music and Ballet Secondary Conservatory]] was first established as a music school in [[established::1945]] in the parish of the Protestant church in Maribor. In 1945 Professor [[Oton Bajde]] established a music school in the parish of the Protestant church in Maribor. He founded a chamber ensemble and a choir, which performed at many ceremonies and other occasions.

Ballet teaching in Maribor originated with the Ballet Studio of the [[Slovene National Theatre Maribor]], which also became part of the Centre for Music Education in 1977. The curriculum of the Maribor Music and Ballet Secondary Conservatory includes general subjects such as math, the English language, biology and physics. The music department offers both classes in musical instruments and music theory. The students can enrol in courses of singing, playing string, wind and brass instruments as well as other instruments such as the organ, the zither and the diatonic accordion.

In 1945 the renowned violoncellist and the music educator Oton Bajde (1906–1933) established the State Primary and Secondary Music School, the predecessor of today’s Conservatory, in the parish of the Protestant church in Maribor. In 1962 the school moved to its current location and changed its name to Centre for Music Education, which was the first establishment of this kind in Yugoslavia.
