At the event the Association also bestows the Best First Book Award, the Best Book Design Award and the Schwentner Award for outstanding publishing achievements.
The Publishing Academy features discussion and debate on current issues affecting the books and publishing sector. Other events organised within the framework of the 2005 festival included a series of debates dubbed 'The Bookfinder', which focused on the 45th anniversary of the Reading Badge initiative to encourage reading in Slovenia's elementary schools. A lecture by Andrinee Pollen on the book market and reading culture in Scandinavia was presented within this programme. Meanwhile the focus of 30 Debate Cafes was on literature and youth, myths, poets among musicians, storytelling, and cross-over literature such as Harry Potter.
