Fru Fru Theatre was founded in 1984 by student puppeteers who worked at Pionirski dom with Lojze Kovačič as their tutor and produced several small-scale mobile performances that toured kindergartens and schools. Later on, the ensemble (which then included Mateja Bizjak, Ava Lokošek, Irena Rajh and Andreja Hočevar) fell apart. However, in 1992 Irena Rajh established a family puppet theatre troupe with husband Marjan Kunaver, reviving the Fru Fru name. Their performances address a young audience and are based on communication with children through a combination of puppetry, acting and live music. Now based at [[KUD France Prešeren Arts and Culture Association]], Fru Fru Theatre co-operates with visual artists who create puppets (Igor Cvetko, Marko A Kovačič, Marina Hrovatin), and directors (Jelena Sitar, Jan Zakonjšek, Mateja Bizjak). Fru Fru also collaborates extensively with [[Zapik Theatre]]. Its productions have been presented in Belgium, at the Festival Bielsko-Biala in Poland, at PIF in Zagreb and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and have received many awards. | Fru Fru Theatre was founded in 1984 by student puppeteers who worked at Pionirski dom with Lojze Kovačič as their tutor and produced several small-scale mobile performances that toured kindergartens and schools. Videk’s New Shirt, a puppet show by Fru Fru Puppet Theatre organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Washington, touring different venues,
at the Kids Euro Festival (USA)
In 2005 Fru Fru Theatre produced the performance based on W Holzwarth's The Story of the Little Mole Who Went in Search of Whodunit and in 2006 the interpretation of the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In August 2007 Fru Fru Theatre produced the mini festival The Labyrinth of the Moments on four stages set up within a labyrinth-type setting in a tent. During the day children were encouraged to find the performance of their liking, while in the evening the same challenge was offered to adults. Ten Slovene puppetry groups - including Konj Puppet Theatre, Teatro matita and Papelito Puppet Theatre - and seven puppetry groups from Slovakia, Italy, Belgium, France and Germany presented their plays. The first venue for the 'labyrinth' was Tivoli Park in Ljubljana, following which the structure was set at the city square in Maribor within the framework of the Summer Pier International Puppetry Festival, Maribor. In 2008 The Labyrinth of the Moments will be presented at the Edinburgh Festival and the following year in Reims, France.
