Via Negative is an international theatre research project led by stage director Bojan Jablanovec and his assistant Nana Milčinski. The concept evolved out of three development projects produced in 1999 (Europe - a Girl who was Too Fast, Lenora and Olga Grad vs Juanna Regina). Since 2000 its research has focused on methods of acting and forms of production within the thematic framework of the seven deadly sins (anger, gluttony, greed, sloth, lust, envy, pride). Each year one of the sins is selected for research, and the results are presented as a performance by applying a method of reduction (no stage illusion and no drama text, stage set, costumes or stage technology, just the actor’s imagination and body, and the spectators' imagination and time). Its first project was Anger (2002) staged at the Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana, at the A+A Gallery, Venice, at the Infant festival in Novi Sad, and in Pančevo and Borštnikovo srečanje. Research in 2004 resulted in More (gluttony), presented in Ljubljana and subsequently in Antwerp where it was performed in the context of the permanent collection of the Muhka Gallery and in a supermarket by four actors from Belgium and Spain. In 2005 Via Negativa conceived the performance Incasso (greed) and in 2006 Would Would I (lust). A final production in 2008 named Via Nova will unite all the material.
