Background
The Department of Geography was established in 1919, the same year as Ljubljana's university. The 32 staff members, both pedagogic and non-pedagogic, deal with around 500 students, at a graduate and postgraduate study programme. In 2002 the department launched a research institute, focusing on environmental and regional-development studies.
The Department of Geography also houses the largest geographical library, which is a part of the Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library.
Publications
There are several publications run by the department's staff and its collaborators. One is DELA, a periodical aimed at scientific paper and materials. The other publication is GeograFF aimed at a more general public interested in geography. Articles from both publications are available in digital format at DLib.si - Digital Library of Slovenia.
International cooperation
Besides the international agreements at the university level, the Department of Geography has a substantial number of partnerships all over Europe, namely, in Paris, Lille, Liege, Amsterdam, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Dublin, Munich, Würzburg, Münster, Seville, Bilbao, Lisbon, Beja, Freiburg, Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Krakow, Lublin, Riga, Trieste, Graz, etc.
