The Confucius Institute is a non-profit institution established by the Chinese state office Hanban (Office of Chinese Language Council International) for the purpose of promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture. With China as the growing world economy, more than 300 institutes have opened in 94 countries around the globe to serve as a platform for economic, cultural and study exchange. The Confucius Institute in Ljubljana was opened in 2010 at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana. It cooperates with the Faculty of Arts and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade.

Programme overview

The Confucius Institute is aimed at students, citizens, and companies interested in Chinese language and culture or business opportunities. Courses in Chinese language and business culture are organised in order to promote and establish economic and business exchange between Slovene and Chinese companies.

The institute also conducts research; a research on the business of Slovene companies in China was recently finished. The first workshop on "China as a Business Opportunity" was organised in Spring 2011.

Language and culture

Intense cooperation with the Yuan Sinological Society and the Department of Asian and African Studies at the Faculty of Arts was established in order to promote ties with Chinese language and culture. Activities for students, translators, or professors include courses, student exchanges, and excursions.
