"#BeYourOwnPlatform: radical digital authonomy for musicians" - a talk by Luka Prinčič of Kamizdat netlabel.
at the DIWO Week
Kamizdat is managed by Luka Prinčič/Nova deViator and Maja Delak. It is dedicated to releasing local artists but it still manages to cover a vast scope of genres and styles. At first it was primarily committed to digital releases (downloads), but every now and then they also deliver physical releases in limited editions. The label pays a great deal of attention to collaboration with local artisans, so their efforts are always characterised by the values of D.I.Y. ethos, local participation, use of free software, environmental concerns and critical theory.
Kamizdat's releases are rather genre-resistant, focused as much on undiscovered as well as established audio-visual creators based in Slovenia. They are mostly released under Creative Commons licences, although sometimes even those aren't applied, depending on the preferences of the authors themselves. Kamizdat's authorship management is "copyleft" rather than "copyright". All the releases are available for download and/or purchases on Kamizdat's Bandcamp page.
