The roots of the Institute of Anthropological and Spatial Studies go back to 1994, when the Spatial Information Centre (PIC) was established within ZRC SAZU, headed by Dr Zoran Stančič. In 2004 the constant growth of PIC and the expansion of the areas of research resulted in its expansion into the Institute of Anthropological and Spatial Studies (IAPŠ).
The institute collaborates with the Slovene Research Agency (ARRS) and is active within international research cooperation (for example, with the University of Franche-Comté in France, the University of Dresden in Germany, the University of Birmingham in Great Britain, etc.). Current research projects include Harmonization of object detection on optical satellite images, Europeanisation and 'new' regionalism on the 'margins' of Europe and Spatial dynamics of territories from Prehistory to Middle Age, and others.
The researchers at the Institute of Anthropological and Spatial Studies regularly publish scientific articles and monographies; the contents and the presentations of the authors of the publications are accessible at the official website.
