Launched in 2008, Amfiteater (in English: Amphitheatre) journal publishes articles in the field of the performing arts, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary studies of performance in the context of different media, cultures, social sciences, and arts. Being the first Slovene journal for performing arts to follow the academic practice of publishing peer reviewed articles, the journal is published twice per year by Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in collaboration with the Slovenian Theatre Institute (SLOGI). It cooperates with the Association of Theatre Critics and Researchers of Slovenia.

Abstracts in English are available at the website; occasionally entire articles are also published in English.

Profile

Amfiteater promotes new theoretical approaches to performance art research within the context of diverse media, cultures and arts, encouraging authors to tackle head-on the challenges generated by art in its present-day globalised and multicultural reality. The openness towards different standpoints and interdisciplinary approaches is provided by the editorial board and international advisory board, comprised of colleagues from various fields of research, who share numerous experiences in scholarly activities and artistic projects.

International dimension

The journal's second issue with the theme "Mechanisms of Control and Power" was edited by Barbara Sušec Michieli and published in collaboration with the Historiography Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research (FIRT/IFTR). The fourth issue of the journal was edited by Bojana Kunst and published in collaboration with the journal Maska, with the theme "Work and Collaboration Processes within Contemporary Performing Arts".

The journal is included in MLA International Bibliography.
