A network of 29 Austrian Kulturforum institutions work around the world in various fields of cultural dialogue. In addition to the Ljubljana office it has branches in Belgrade, Berlin, Bern, Budapest, Bucharest, Brussels, Istanbul, Cairo, Kiev, Krakov, London, Madrid, Milan, Mexico, Moscow, New York, Ottawa, Paris, Beijing, Prague, Rome, Tehran, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Warsaw, Washington and Zagreb. Since 1990 when the Austrian Embassy in Ljubljana created a dedicated cultural department, cultural exchange between Slovenia and Austria has been developing. Its monthly programme comprises various cultural events around Slovenia, such as exhibitions, lectures and readings. It co-operates with Austrian local governments (Carinthia and Steyermark and the Municipalities of Klagenfurt and Graz) as well as with numerous Slovene cultural organisations and municipalities. A significant part of its activities falls under the umbrella of the 'Culture Platform – Central Europe' initiative, started in 2001, which is based on regional partnerships that aim at fostering Central European cultural dialogues.
