Mednarodni festival gorniškega filma Domžale
Kamniška 13, SI-1230 Domžale
Frequencyannual

The International Mountain Film Festival Domžale started screening films in 2007. Presenting various aspects of mountain culture, its programme encompasses films about mountain sports (mountaineering, mountain running, B.A.S.E jumping etc), various types of climbing, mountain wildlife, the life of indigenous mountain dwellers and more. It does not limit itself to films only, but also hosts lectures, exhibitions, book presentations and children's programme, all with the aim of enriching the cultural component of how mountains are perceived.

The festival is organised in collaboration between Društvo za gorsko kulturo (Society for mountain culture) and Cankarjev dom, where most of the festival's events occur (the other location is the Franc Bernik Culture House in Domžale). It has been founded and led since the beginning by the legendary mountaineer Silvo Karo. In 2010 the International Mountain Film Festival Domžale became a member of the International Alliance for Mountain Film.

Sections and awards

The International Mountain Film Festival Domžale film programme has 5 categories: Mountaineering; Climbing; Mountains, sports and adventure; Mountain nature and culture; and Retrospective. In each of these categories (excluding retrospective) the best film is chosen and awarded by the international jury, which also awards the best short film prize and the Main Prize of the City of Domžale. There are also awards given by the Moutaineering association of Slovenia, RTV Slovenia) and by the viewers themselves.
