The internationally acclaimed [[Irwin]] group forms part of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) movement. In the work of group (of 5 painters) two fundamental attitudes may be observed: the first is the emphasis on collective working rather than privileging the individual personality of the artist; and the second is the NSK working procedure, sometimes called the ‘retro-principle’, whereby works become a collage of quotations and allusions to various sources. | The internationally acclaimed [[Irwin]] group forms part of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) movement. IRWIN: The Eye of the State (related to Irwin, Laibach, Novi kolektivizem (NK)) curated by Avi Pitchon, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Tel Aviv
The group lives and works in Ljubljana. They have presented their work at several solo exhibitions in Europe, Russia and America, and participated at several international exhibitions, eg 1st Manifesta in Rotterdam in 1996, 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, 9th Istambul Biennial in 2005; Eye on Europe at Museum of Modern Art in New York, 2006; Das Scharwze Quadrat. Hommage à Malewich at the Hamburg Kunsthalle, 2007).
The Irwin group expanded its visual projects to the intermedia field, especially in the form of interactive web projects, for example the East Art Map project (http://www.eastartmap.org) and the project 'Like to Like' at the Cornerhouse, Manchester.
In November 2007 the Irwin exhibition Monokromi ('Monochromes') was presented at the Gregor Podnar Gallery in Ljubljana.
