The Slovene Art Historians' Society was established in 1921 by Izidor Cankar, who was - next to France Stele and Vojislav Mole - one of the founders of the Slovene art history profession. Since its inception the Society has published the Art History Bulletin along with a regular series of other works by art historians as they have gradually mapped the topography of Slovene art. The Society also organises regular lectures and visits to collections and monuments. Each year the Society bestows the Izidor Cankar Award on professionals, individuals or groups from Slovenia or abroad who have made significant contributions in the field of Slovene art history.
