The Union of Associations of Slovene Librarians bestows the annual Čop Award for achievements in librarianship. A contemporary and close friend of France Prešeren, Matija Čop (1797-1835) was an important Slovene linguist, literary historian, and librarian. The award was first bestowed in 1967.
