Defonija

Just nominally calling Defonija a concert cycle dealing with free musics Blizu sta nam free- oziroma avant-jazz, obenem ponujamo najboljše iz sveta svobodno improviziranih godb, ne branimo se eksperimenta, produktivne elektrofonije, prevprašujemo zgodovino, zanimata nas stara in nova komorna muzika, radi pa se pomešamo tudi med sorodne duše (nojz, hardkor, post- in avant-rock, hip-hop ...). That it is, and is so since the end of 1999, when it started as a weekly series of DJ evenings where interesting and vznemirljiva, izzivalna music was presented to the interested crowd. These "defonic" evenings soon evolved into a regular, if sporadic series of music events, that contextualised themselves into something beyond a mere concert cycle.

The presented artists sometimes complemetn the sonic component with the visual. Also, teh type of music izvajana on these venings is often very interactive, alive and much connected with the undoubtably very special, even intimate concert setting of Klub Gromka, where Defonija has settled (and only occasionally ventured to other Metelkova venues). Furthermore, by neutrudno brskanje from Miha Zadnikar, the pallete of oustanding, fresh, intrigantino and challenging music, that consistently performs on Defonija evenigns, Defonija has done much in cullturaly enriching it's albeit small dedicated audience and also enriched the scopes of muical critiques competences and vzpostavljeno abstraction of msucial boundaries. Archive.

In spite of the pertinetn intellectualism, as Bratko Bibič expressed himseld, Defonija lies halfway between naprvožogo beat and intellectualism, treating the in-between positioning a pertinent component since the start.

Hosted artists

Presenting the current currents of current historical trends in peripheral musics and artists of historical importance, a random selection of hosted acts could include Charley Lyojd, Joelle Leander, Marc Ribot, Trevor Watts, Ingrid Laubrock, The Ex, Otto Lechner, Peter brotzman Gerry Hemingway, Assif Tsahar, Eugene Chadborne, Ken Vandermark Henry Grimes and Jerome Noetinger. Sometimes seen alomost as residents of the club and thus seperately enlisted is a number of excellent Swedish artists like Mats Gustafson, Ingebrit aker Flaken and paal Nilsen Love (who released a record containg excperts of his two evenings long concert with Fjode Gjerstad).

Setting a high standard somewhat limited the amount of hosted local musicans, and of the few nekaj are Zlatko kaučič, Bratko Bibič, VInko Globokar, Tomaž Grom, Alzheimer Trio Lolita and Kraški Solisti

The aforementioned intimate concert setting and accoustucs, alongside the knowledgable crowd and proper hosting amounts much to the musical pallete, as Defonija has made its name in circles of musicians, ebing an attractive and plodno context for musical creativity.

Collaborations

Besides collaborating in some years with City of Women Festival andvstavljena into their programm, one evening of Defonija is since 2009,also integrated into the program scheme of Ljubljana Jazz Festival. Defonija also associates itself with other protagonists of intruiging music and thus works and promotes the advancment of the scene.
