Maechtig-Vrhunc Arhitekti

The Maechtig-Vrhunc Arhitekti studio was founded in Ljubljana in 1995 by partners Tomaž Maechtig and Urša Vrhunc. Their architectural projects challenge traditional pre-conceptions of space. The studio is active in urban planning, architecture, and design, and has won several awards at competitions, naming only Technology Park Brdo in collaboration with Elastik Architecture, and the competition for the Stanežiče City.

Selected building projects include Celje Chalet; the Riko prefabricated wood panel single-family building in Palm Springs; and Edelweis houses in Stožice; EuroCity complex in Šiška; and the Mostec Apartment Block, all in Ljubljana. The studio's interior design projects include the Gigodesign office studio in an abandoned industrial loft in Ljubljana and the interior of their own office space, which won the Interior of the Year Award in 2004. The studio has also designed the OblikaObleka fashion exhibition organised by OLoOP Design, and temporary Telekom Info–points.

Background

After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana Tomaž Maechtig continued his studies at the Gnomon School for Visual Effects and Computation in Hollywood, California. Urša Vrhunc took her Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA, in Los Angeles, California.
