Officially established in 1974, with the origins traced back to the Maribor Amateur Photographic and Cinema Association, established in 1936, the main activity of Photoclub Maribor is organisation of solo exhibitions by both Slovene and foreign photographers at the Stolp Photogallery. Another imoportant activity is to serve its members to exhibit in other national and international exhibiting spaces like in February 2010, when it co-organised the exhibition of Saša Kos in Cankarjev dom Small Gallery. It also supplies its members with newsletters of public competitions and other practical information, which are regularly published on their website. The third main activity of Photoclub Maribor is regular organisation of seminars, workshops, presentations and similar events of Slovene and foreign photographers in the Atelier of the Art Photography. Within the monthly organised Club Evening [Klubski večer], Slovene photographers and authors as Edi Masnec, Antonio Živkovič, Matej Lipovšek, Jure Kravanja or Serbian photographer Imre Szaba recently presented their work. Today counts the Photoclub Maribor xy members.


History

The Photoclub Maribor is known on its long and variegated history: by 1949 it had 277 members, many of whom toured the former Yugoslavia with their exhibitions. During the 1960s it became Photoclub Maribor under the leadership of Simon Tihec, and at this time the unique exhibition Photographs by the Maribor Circle received international acclaim, featuring work by photographers such as Zmago Jeraj, Stojan Kerbler, Slavko Tihec, Dragiša Modrinjak and Bogo Čerin.
