Established in October 1993, Canticum consists of a group of 18 to 36 singers, all of them students of the University of Maribor, the University of Graz and the University of Ljubljana. The conductor is the Professor of Choral Conducting, Jože Fürst. Canticum’s repertoire includes the opus of composers from all musical periods, with a special emphasis on modern choral music. The choir received a golden award bestowed by the University of Maribor (1999) and has also won the highest prizes at international choir competitions in Italy (Citta di Fano festival 1994), Rhodes, Greece (1998), Vienna (Franz Schubert competition 1999), Monster, Netherlands (Tonen 2000) and Jersey, United Kingdom (2001). In the past the group performed at the Maasmechelen world competition in Belgium (2003) and in 2008 at the Slovene Philharmonics at a concert devoted to the 80th anniversary of the birth of compositor Jakob Jež.
