Fran Korun Koželjski Music School, Velenje
Background
In 1965 the Centre for Musical and Ballet Education Velenje was formed when the independent Music School Velenje(established in 1960) was combined with Fran Korun Koželjski Music School. Since 1993 the music school has also offered high-school education. This artistic high-school programme is co-organised with School Centre Velenje. The four-year programme can be taken separately or parallel with regular high school.
Fran Korun Koželjski
Fran Korun Koželjski (1868–1935) was a music pedagogue and composer. He established the first two schools for violin and zither in Slovenia, which was an important step because it allowed Slovenes to learn these instruments in their native language. His works are mostly written for choirs, diatonic harmonica, and zither.
Masterclass and summer schools
The school had and is still organising several different international and summer schools: an international summer violin school, an international organ school, an international harp seminar, a clarinetists seminar, a saxophone seminar, an international accordion seminar, and a trumpet seminar.
