In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the museum organises temporary exhibitions out of its collections and cooperates with institutions from Slovenia and abroad.
International cooperation
In 2003 the museum collaborated as co-organiser in the project Schöne Öde / Bella Brulla / Beautiful Wasteland led by the Universitätskulturzentrum UNIKUM in Klagenfurt (AT), with co-organisers Unione dei Circoli Culturali Sloveni (Zveza slovenskih kulturnih društev), Trieste (IT), Kultur und Kommunikationszentrum St. Johann im Rosental (Kulturni in komunikacijski center Šentjanž v Rožu) (AT) and other partners. Funded by the Culture 2000 programme of the European Commission, the aim of the project was to encourage regional identity and respect of the "unattractive". Artistic happenings and events opened new perspectives for visitors and above all local inhabitants. The authors focused attention on the themes that are characteristic of all three towns in the border triangle of Austria, Slovenia and Italy: water, abandoned industrial objects, railways, museums, everyday and industrial culture and multilingualism.
Publishing
The museum publishes many monographies on different local topics concerning the history of places, people habits, and industrial heritage. For example, in 2009 a monography on the history of KID (Kranjska Industrial Society). The museum's exhibitions are usually accompanied by a catalogue.
