Saša Nabergoj, head of the World of Art: School for Contemporary Arts lectures on laziness and participates at the Summer Seminars for Art Curators
The course for curators offers basic knowledge related to the work of the curator when dealing with conceptualising and setting up exhibitions. A maximum of six or seven participants can enrol in the course each year. The duration of the course is one year (from October to September) and as such constitutes a unique form of such education in Slovenia and broader region of middle and eastern Europe. The course also includes study excursions in Slovenia and abroad and a final exhibition in which participants prepare a concept, raise funds, edit a catalogue, do the PR, and so on. The seminar in writing on contemporary art fills the gap in theoretical and critical reflection and encouraging writings on contemporary artistic practices. It is composed of regular mentor meetings and several workshops (newspaper critic, text for a catalogue, critics discourses, interpretation of an artwork, interviews, presentation on TV etc), which are guided by different experts. The aim of workshops is to present an overview of various writing genres and media presentations as well as their practical applications. In 2006-2007 World of Art introduced Laboratorium, a new platform for collaborative work and discussion for more experienced young curators. School activities take place at different galleries (eg at ŠKUC Gallery or Kapelica Gallery in Ljubljana), and lectures are also presented in other locations such as the Nova Gorica Arts Centre and Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art. The programme is supported by the state and by local funders, but also attracts sponsorship from KulturKontakt Austria, the International Contemporary Art Network (i-CAN) and various foreign embassies.
