Production highlights
Senca's own production and co-production output, while relatively small, ranges widely across styles and genres, beginning in 2011 with Stvari, ki jih nisva nikoli naredila (Things We've Never Done Together), a short film by acclaimed Italian-Slovenian director Martin Turk. Two feature films followed: Adria Blues (2013), which was a co-production involving Senca, Gustav Film and director Miroslav Mandić's own Filmostovje production company, and was nominated for awards at the Karlovy Vary and Santa Barbara international film festivals; and Moj dida je pao s Marsa (My Grandpa is an Alien, 2019), an acclaimed Croatian-Slovenian co-production that won awards at Pula and Sydney, and was shown at an impressive 25 festivals across the world in 2019.
Documentaries are an area of particular interest to Senca. Pisatelj in mesto (Writer and the City, dir. Maja Weiss) examines the life of Drago Jančar as he visits his hometown of Maribor and takes part in the European Capital of Culture events held there in 2012; Peter vs Harry (2018), written, directed and produced by Ida Weiss, is a sideways look at the life of German filmmaker and musician Peter Braatz; and Iskre v času (Sparks in Time, 2020) uncovers the fascinating story of Iskra Delta, a tiny Slovenian IT company that found itself in the middle of the Cold War technology race in the 1980s.
