The Electric Rats Dream Video Dreams festival was launched in July 2007 by the Filter Society (DZU Filter), which wanted to establish a video festival featuring quality selection and discussion that would enhance critical perception of video as an integral and independent art practice. The festival aims to draw on the resources of other European and worldwide festivals and plans future collaborations.

Background

The name of the festival is a direct analogy to Philp K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The idea of electric dreams for the name of this small and progressive international video festival was associated with several different species, from rats to androids to humans. Since the very beginning of the festival the aim has been to popularise videastic experimental works and also more filmic approaches in the field of visual art.

Dreaming Videos

In order to expand the practices in video art the festival usually includes several competitions sections: Debitants, One Minute Video, Video Shot by Mobile Phone, Animation, section Anything Goes and Honourable Award. So far, the competition programme has been accompanied by screenings of video works by students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and video workshops under the mentorship of Neven Korda from the association Zank.
