Besides the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovene public archives service comprises six regional archives. They were founded by the state and enjoy the status of public institutions. Each regional archives focuses on maintaining and preserving archival items related to the greater region which it serves, covering the country from the east (Maribor – Lower Styria region (Drava); Ptuj – Styria region (Drava); and Celje – Savinja statistical region) to the centre (Ljubljana – Central Slovenia) and the west (Nova Gorica – Gorizia and Koper – Coastal-Karst).
