Music education programme
The primary school encompasses music theory and the basics of playing the selected instrument. The secondary school offers theoretical courses with subjects such as music history, theory, composition and solfeggio as well as classes for a selected instrument. The conservatory has also preschool education programmes. It has active string, wind and guitar orchestras at the primary educational level. At the secondary level pupils take part in the symphony orchestra, different chamber and jazz ensembles, as well as in mixed and chamber choirs. Musical education focuses mostly on the classical repertoire, but since 1992 there are also jazz and popular music departments.
Ballet education programme
The conservatory's ballet education programmes, which cover both ballet and contemporary dance, consist of ballet courses for children, elementary ballet school, secondary ballet school and higher ballet school or ballet college. The first entry to the ballet course began in the academic year 2007/2008 which was originally intended for primary level ballet teachers and to teach ballet preparatory but after the renewed curriculum in academic year 2015/2016 the student now after finishing the course gain a professional title of a Higher ballet dancer. The ballet programme is connected to SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and the Maribor Music and Ballet Secondary Conservatory for the purpose of practical training.
