In 2012, on the occasion when Maribor held the title of the [[Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012|European Capital of Culture]], the tournament was expanded into the European Poetry Tournament, joining poets from 6 European countries.

Pivec Publishing House was established in 2003 in Maribor with the aim of promoting reading and education. They publish over 40 book titles annually, thus becoming one of the largest publishing houses in the region of north-east Slovenia.
