History

The predecessor of Radio Koper was established in 1949 as Radio of the Yugoslav zone of Trieste. Originally it was broadcast in Slovenian, Croatian, and Italian languages. After 1954 it became a part of Radio Ljubljana (today's Radio Slovenia) and transmission was broadcast in Italian and Slovenian only. From 1954 to 1979, the program was predominantly in Italian, with two short Slovene blocks only in the morning and evening. In 1980, Studio Nova Gorica started operating, and in 1992 the program in Slovene was expanded to the full-day programme in Slovene language. The station has studios in Koper and Nova Gorica, it also regularly collaborates with Slovene radio stations and stations from Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, and even Australia. For many years, it was one of the three most listened radio-stations in Italy and even today it still plays an important role in preserving the common cultural space of coastal Slovenes and Italian minority in Slovenia.

Arts and culture programming
