TIP OF THE DAY: A rich man with an itch has a wide reach.

Perhaps this simple sentence can help to recall the difference between "rich" (bogat) and "reach" (doseg or doseči).

Let's start!

Article checklist

If checklists can save lives, just think what they can do for Culture.si!!! The Checklist Manifesto

Before you start

  1. Install English / United Kingdom dictionary in your browser.
  2. Turn on Check Spelling feature in your browser.
  3. Review the overview articles for your field. These articles provide important background information about key institutions, history of the field in Slovenia, and terminology.

Before you mark an article to be proofread, be sure to

  1. Make the first appearance of the organisation name (typically, article name) an internal link using .
  2. Tag Date of Establishment (i.e., Established::1980).
  3. Mark end of Teaser section in text.
  4. Confirm and double-check all names and titles in the article, as well as English translations.
  5. Correct the spelling on any words with red lines under them that are not names or titles.
  6. Double-check the sections "See also" and "External links". Remember to make bullets (*).
  7. Use – instead of hyphen. :)
  8. Type pipe with Alt-Gr-W.

PROOFREADER'S CHECKLIST

Before you delete TOPROOFREAD from an article, be sure to:

  1. Read the Article Talk page to familiarise yourself with any issues related to the article.
  2. Make sure the first appearance of the organisation name, or rather, article name, is an internal link using .
  3. Make sure the date of establishment is included and tagged (i.e., Established::1980).
  4. Check for the length and content of the Teaser section in text. Sometimes this needs to be adjusted.
  5. Confirm and double-check all names and titles in the article, as well as English translations.
  6. Correct the spelling on any words with red lines under them that are not names or titles.
  7. Double-check the sections "See also" and "External links". Remember to make bullets (*).
  8. Replace all hyphens with –.
  9. Type pipe with Alt-Gr-W.
  10. Check for appropriate formatting on titles of artworks and foreign words (italics) as well as project titles and conference titles (no italics, Title Case, sometimes with " ").
  11. Use the Show Preview button and re-read the entire article as it will be seen on the portal in order to double-check for any other issues.
  12. Read the captions under any images in the Gallery section and correct as necessary.
  13. Type a standard phrase in the Edit Summary when you finalise the editing and are reading to pass it along the pipeline.
  14. If you have any issues, questions, etc. for the editors, be sure to write them on the Article Talk page. (It's helpful to write (see talk) in the Edit Summary of the Article when you save it, as a reminder that there is a comment about this page to be seen on the Talk page.

Overall editorial directives

  • Highlight current activities
  • International successes
  • Latest hottest news
  • Curated program – conceptual
  • Mission / Artistic policy / Concept
  • What is special about it
  • Types of Activities

Think about what makes this organisation an attractive / relevant partner for international cooperation. What does the organisation offer? What is their track record known for? What are some of the most talked about aspects of the organisation? What are the first words that come to mind when you think about the organisation?

Remember to write foremost for

  • foreign artists
  • producers, cultural managers
  • cultural / international affairs officials & agents
  • journalists
  • scholars

who will be searching the site to learn about the types of cultural products in Slovenia, the genres presented as well as to confirm references about a particular organisation, for example, are they a potential partner or not?

Questions from a virtual visitor

Specifically, each field has its own unique questions that a visitor will hope to have answered while reading Culture.si. Please consider these questions as a type of litmus test for your article? Have you covered all the bases?

Inverted pyramid

Use the inverted pyramid format: the most important and most pertinent facts at the top, then explanatory contents, expansion and in-depth information follows below. ATTENTION! Each fact should be mentioned only ONCE. The key is to find the optimal place to mention it. Our writing needs to be juicy enough to keep potential partner organisations interested to read further.

Descriptive and definitive opening sentence

First sentence = Description and Definition. Yes, in one sentence (!), define the organisation and describe it succinctly in a relatively-short, direct sentence. Please find a way to include information about when the organisation was founded or established, and be sure to mark the year of founding in your code as Established::1980. Mark up also the name of the article when it is mentioned for the first time: Laibach. On the article page it will appear bold, when featured on the portal it will link to the entire article.

Teaser

First paragraph = Teaser (ex Abstract). While our editors first thought of this paragraph as an abstract about the organisation, I like to think of it as a (meaningful) introduction, or perhaps a teaser. Think of how you would introduce someone to your friend at a dinner party, you'd want to mention a few highlights about that person, the things that you think your friend would find interesting, things that would intrigue your friend enough to continue a conversation. Same thing here.

That said, here's what to include:

  • Current news or latest achievements, current interests or projects

A tag has been provided by the ROBOT: ...vsebina odstavka... .

Body

Next follows the body of the article: a detailed presentation focused on international cooperation and including updated information for the period 2007-2009. If the article is extensive, divide it into the section headings appropriate for your field. The section headings that you use will also depend upon how much you have to say about the organisation.

If you do not use section headings, organise the information in one or two paragraphs in the same order as the section headings. Some articles may not require section headings because there will simply not be enough information to justify an entire section heading for one topic. In this case, try to use clear language in the text so that the reader can easily find the information needed.

Section headings according to field

Mandatory headings

See also

  • List related links inside Culture.si
  • Depending upon the activities of the organisation and/or the diversity of categories, it is advisable to make subheadings for the links. For example:
    • Festivals organised by organisation
    • Awards organised by organisation
    • Networks in which the organisation actively participates

External links

  • Official URL of the organisation (in addition to INFOBOX). Here, however, it should be written as "Organisation's website". If the organisation or branch is described within a larger website, please use "Organisation's web page".
  • MANDATORY: Links to international cooperation projects of which the organisation has been a co-organiser or partner. Please check this database for information: CCP Database of projects funded by the EU Culture programme. If the project does not have its own website, please at least put a link to the English project description in the CCP database.
  • Relevant articles or reviews about the organisation
    • Links to reviews should firstly include foreign press then Slovenian press
    • When linking to Slovenian press, limit to the most relevant reviews, not mere listings in the newspaper. Give priority to links that are free (for example, Delo archives are only available for pay.)
    • Links to Wikipedia articles when extensive, esp. if in English when not, add "(in Slovenian)" outside of the link and be sure to write "Wikipedija" not "Wikipedia".
    • Related picture galleries (for example from http://www.kraji.eu)
    • Related channels/profiles on youtube, vimeo, myspace, flicker, imdb, facebook, twitter (to embed these, tag like this: )

Infobox

Check and correct all contact information for the organisation.

  • Do not use titles such as mag., dr., prof. in Infobox.
  • Do capitalise titles such as Director, Editor in Chief, President.
  • Do not use abbreviations such as d.o.o., Ltd., d.n.o. in article, but do use them in Infobox.

Use the footnote template to enter the relevant data about your reference source.

Headings and their contents

What follows is a brief discussion about the types of information to include under each heading.

Background/History

  • Provide a brief overview of the most important events in the history of the organisation, including names of important personalities and dates related to important expansions, changes in direction, etc. Paragraph form is preferred to a bullet-point list of dates and events. Be sure to chose the most relevant facts about the organisation, for example, those that make it unique in its field or in Slovenia.

Programme / Mission

  • A synopsis of the organisation's activities which provides insight into the flavour, style, context of their work in Slovenia and internationally. Please try to avoid merely copy-pasting the mission statement from the organisation's website.

Significant projects

  • Here we are interested in the most important or relevant performances of the organisation, especially ones that have led to recognition, created a stir because of their uniqueness or whatever reason might seem attractive. List performances as Name of Performance in English Language [Translation in Slovenian language] (Year). For each performance provide at least one sentence about it.

Publishing / Publications

  • What types of publications, frequency, editorial structure, etc. Are the publications translations or are they texts published in original Slovenian language? Are publications in any other language besides Slovenian? Dual language or separate?

International Cooperation

  • In this section discuss whatever of the three following aspects of international cooperation relate to the organisation:
    • European projects – projects that have received funding from European Commission funding bodies (EACEA (Culture 2000, Culture 2007-2013, Creative Europe), European Parliament, Erasmus, etc.) - the EACEA supported projects are listed in the right-hand column of the article - just mention it!
    • Tours abroad / Guest appearances on festivals
    • Projects made in Slovenia with foreign artists or in co-production with foreign organisations.
    • Membership in international networks - emphasise proactive involvement!

Education

  • Here we are interested in the educational activities offered for adults, especially education in the form of professional training, workshops, stages, workstudy, etc. Education programmes for children are not part of culture.si. Emphasise international teachers / guest lecturers & target groups (Who is it for?).

Awards and achievements

  • List most important awards received by the organisation and, where relevant, for what work it was received. Do not duplicate information that may be listed in another section. Give priority to the most prestigious Slovenian awards, then to Foreign awards, then to smaller Slovenian awards.
  • List achievements that the organisation has reached. For example, the only, the first, the biggest, the most-widely attended. If possible, you can interweave these facts into the body of the text.

Template for new articles
