Established in 1986 the society has bestowed numerous awards: the Murko Special Mention (the first recipients being Vilko Novak and Niko Kuret in 1988); followed by the Murko Credentials (since 1996) for the continuous popularisation of ethnological knowledge; and the Murko Awards (since 1999). The latter recognises the lifetime scientific achievements (in recent years bestowed to Damjan J. Ovsec, Vito Hazler, Marija Kozar-Mukič, and Marko Terseglav).
