Studio Arkadena has co-operated with several European production companies, including Markenfilm (Germany), Mustard (London), Gang Films, Blue Marlyn and Tabago Films (Paris), Filmmaster (Italy), Sirena Films (Czech Republic) and Novotny & Novotny (Vienna). Nearly all of its short films have been financed directly without government support or funding. Distribution and broadcast rights for all documentary and short films have been sold to ABC TV (Australia), Channel 4 (United Kingdom), CANAL+ (France), SBC (Australia) and Denmark TV.
Studio Arkadena's productions include the feature films Nekdo drug ('Somebody Else') directed by Boštjan Vrhovec (1987), Ječarji ('Jailers', 1989) and Morana (1991) directed by Aleš Verbič, Herzog directed by Mitja Milavec (1996), Jebi ga ('Fuck it, So What?') and Na planincah ('On the Sunny Side', 2003) directed by Miha Hočevar, and 'Summer in the Golden Valley' (2003) and 'A View from the Eiffel Tower' (2005) from Artikulacija, Belgrade. The film Noč ('Let Me Sleep', 2006) by visual artist Miha Knific was made in co-production with Start Film Productions, Stockholm. The feature film Reality (2006), directed by Dafne Jemeršič, was a co-production with Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), Viba Film Studio, the Ljubljana-based independent company Art rebel 9, Video Production Kregar Studio (VPK Studio), E-motion Film/Vertigo and Propeler film of Zagreb.
Studio Arkadena has produced many award-winning short films. Its three architectural films shot between 1991 and 1993 - Architect Plečnik and Ljubljana, Plečnik's Sacral Architecture and Unfinished Works - represent the first attempts to use computer animation and composition to compare architectural ideas with reality. 'Once upon a Time' by Andrej Verbič got a special mention at the 1990 Berlin Film Festival; Zdravko Barišič's 1997 short Balkan Roulette was a finalist in the 1998 Cannes short film official selection, and in his follow-up work My First Cut (1999) was awarded Best Short Film in the Panorama official selection at the Berlinale 2000, and also won awards at the Message to Men Film Festival in St Petersburg, at the Festival Cine dem Tetuan in Morocco and also at the film festivals in Dresden, Bordeaux and Hampton. Since that time Studio Arkadena has also produced Tiigra directed by Nataša Matjašec (2001) and Hop, Skip and Jump by Srdjan Vuletić (2000). The short fiction work (A)torsion (2002), directed by Stefan Arsenijević, received the highest award at the Festival of Slovene Film and was also awarded the Berlin Golden Bear of 2003 and nominated for the Academy Award for Short Fiction in 2004. The short film Srce je kos mesa ('Heart is a Piece of Meat', 2003) by Jan Cvitković was shown at Cottbus and subsequently won Best Short Film Award at the Gijon Festival in Spain. Its most recent short film was Ohcet ('The Wedding', 2006), directed by Petar Pašić. Distribution and broadcast rights for all documentary and short films have been sold to ABC TV and SBC (Australia), Channel 4 (UK), Canal + (France) and Denmark TV.
Studio Arkadena also provides creative and experienced camera crews with their own professional equipment (35mm cameras, grip, lighting), meeting the various production demands of guest directors or co-productions.
