The institute has a manifold of archive collections (documents, letters, photographs and tapes) and a collection of emigrant periodicals available for the public. Its separate lending library holds research publications (monographs, proceedings and journals) on international migration and a collection of literary works created by Slovenian emigrant writers.
Publications
The institute has been publishing its research-based monographic editions since 2001, mostly within the Migrations series. Some of them offer an insight into the artistic production within the (e)migrant contexts (for example Buenas artes. Creativity of Slovenians and their descendants in Buenos Aires or Multicultural Slovenia. The position of migrant literature and culture in Slovenia, both published in 2008).
Since 1990 the institute publishes the journal Dve domovini/Two Homelands, the main scientific review on migration studies which is available also online.
As the main scientific institution the institute also participates in the Slovenci.si project, a shared online platform for Slovenes abroad, existing since 2008.
